An interview with one of the first official Co-op employees

The Co-op is growing, and so is our team! As we are getting closer to opening our doors, we’re excited to introduce one of our newest hires, MaCorra, our Pricing and Data Manager. We asked MaCorra some questions to learn more about her background, what drew her to the Co-op, and some other fun questions. Read the full interview below!

1. What inspired you to join our co-op? I come from the land of 10,000 lakes and the most co-ops!!! I was very involved with co-ops in Minnesota before I made Utah my permanent home. From the day I crossed state lines I have desperately been missing a co-op!!!!
2. What does “community” mean to you?
Good vibes, happiness, and neighbors helping each other!!!!!
3. What excites you most about working in a co-op environment?
The energy of the store, the products we will provide, and the people!!!! The people especially!!!!!
4. What skills or experiences are you most excited to bring to the team?
From having experienced multiple different co-ops ranging in all sorts of qualities- I am really excited to help get this one off the ground knowing where other places really succeed.
5. If you could rotate into any department for a day, which would it be and why?
Produce department please!! Let me smell the fresh dill and play under the produce sprinklers!!
6. What does great customer service look like to you?
Going above and beyond- being personable with a huge smile on your face—being able to remember regulars and their special interests or quirks! I am so happy to help you AND hear about your day!
Food & Fun
7. What’s your all-time favorite comfort food?
In my hometown of Fergus Falls, MN we have the Viking Café--- Best ham and cheese omelet & hashbrowns EVER!!! If you find yourself driving on I94… PULL OVER!!
8. Are you a cook, baker, griller, or takeout connoisseur?
I love to cook and bake galore!! Everything is completely from scratch so quality ingredients are important to me… the co-op will surely help!!!
9. What’s one product in the store you think everyone should try?
Han’s Kombucha!!! Gut friendly and doesn’t actually taste like pure vinegar… if you have tried kombucha before and didn’t like it- try Han’s!!!!!!!!
10. What’s your go-to quick meal after a long shift?
I am a major cook and baker so honestly… I’m very fortunate where I can look into my deep freezer and grab plenty of real meals… Soups from scratch- homemade bread- yummy!!!
11. Coffee or tea — and how do you take it?
Either or- whatever will perk up my step a little bit more!!! During the fall months I especially love to enjoy a London Fog while sitting on my front porch.
12. If you could only eat one cuisine for a month, what would it be?
Good ol midwestern cuisine! I could eat tater tot hotdish every day if I needed to!
13. What’s a food trend you love (or secretly don’t understand)?
There is a pretty old recipe that is popular in Wisconsin where people eat pure raw ground beef on bread with raw onions… ish!!! Cannibal sandwiches they are called.
Get to know you
14. What’s a hobby or passion you have outside of work?
I love “grandma hobbies”!!!! Hand embroidery, sewing, quilting, baking, gardening, and loving up on my sweet scottie dog, Walter!!!
15. What’s a fun fact about you most people wouldn’t guess?
I am an ordained minister!!! Wasatch co-op weddings coming soon
16. If you could travel anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?
My hometown to see my family and friends or Ireland!!!!!!
17. Do you have a favorite local spot you’d recommend?
Eggs in the City!!!!!!! Ruth’s Diner or even Sweet Lake Biscuits & Limeade… I am a breakfast girl through and through!!!
18. What’s something you’re currently learning or wanting to learn?
I am currently learning how best to open this co-op Otherwise I have ALWAYS wanted to learn how to play the Harp.
